Lego Rock Band Songs Exportable, Source Says
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
If you want to play some tunes from Lego Rock Band after the kids have gone to bed, it appears that you’ll be able to do so without the cutesy presentation. Wired is reporting that Lego Rock Band’s music will be exportable, enabling Rock Band and Rock Band 2 owners to creat one big playlist with all of their favorite music.
The news comes from a “highly-placed source close to Harmonix,” who said that the feature will have a small fee, as is the case with Rock Band. Naturally, the feature will not be available for The Beatles Rock Band, which is incompatible with DLC from Rock Band and its sequel.
In the meantime, more Rock Band downloadable content has been revealed, including music by The White Stripes and the Racounteurs.
PlayStation 3’s New 3.0 Firmware Now Available
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
Sony has released the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 tonight — version 3.00 for those who are counting. The update was announced alongside the new 120GB PS3 Slim at GamesCom 09 a few weeks ago and includes a bevy of new features.
In case you’ve forgotten or missed it the first time around, once updated, you’ll be treated to a redesigned friends list, new PlayStation Store shortcuts from the XMB, enhanced Trophy support for games with add-ons, dynamic XMB themes, premium avatars, a new status indicator, and a “What’s New” section displaying new PlayStation news and content.
As is usual with PlayStation firmware updates, it’s a sizable download and will take a fairly long time to update — make sure and get downloading before you want to hop on PSN for some online gaming.

UPDATE
Reports are now trickling in as to what the said Firmware update brought in for the PS3 community. But some of the new features are the animated/dynamic backgrounds, which are now usable for your themes. PS news also appears to be more easily accessed, and the trophies now have the ability to earn you add-ons.
Noticeable too, though, is the reported speed up in the trophy list load time. Seems like they’ve fixed it up to get it to load faster and smoother.
How are you guys liking your updates so far?

Uncharted 2 Cinema Mode turns your games into your very own movies
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
Saving replays is so last gen. With the Cinema Mode feature in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, you can turn your cool in-game clips into your very own movies, so you can show off what your Trophies cannot. Check the vid and see for yourself.
Naughty Dog took Machinima.com for a tour and gave them a real good look at how it works. Fluked a move you want everyone to see? Then you can edit the clip and show it off to your friends. There will be plenty of options available for you to play with - lighting and environmental effects, camera functions, and even a green screen mode that lets you change the game’s background.
Think you can make wisecracks better than ol’ Drake himself? Using a Bluetooth headset, you can record speech and characters in the game will automatically lip-sync to your recordings. Cool.

Platinum Shows PS3 Bayonetta, Announces Demo
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
Over the weekend, Sega invited Japanese gamers to A.I. Tokyo — a velvety underground bar in the party capital of Tokyo, Roppongi — for an event called “Feel Bayonetta,” where we were able to manage 15 minutes with Bayonetta on PS3, and discovered news about a demo for the game.
Prior to this event, Sega and Platinum Games had only shown the game running on Xbox 360, and because the game was announced over a year ago, some players have been wondering about the PS3 version as a result. Unfortunately, this event didn’t do much to help calm their fears.
While the 360 version on display looked crisp and smooth, the PS3 version was very blurry and the framerate was all over the place. During one portion of the demo, a crazy scene where you are jumping off of falling parts of a giant clock tower, it was often hard to keep track of the action because of the graphical issues on PS3.
Jade Raymond now head of Ubisoft Toronto
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
Assassin’s Creed producer and Ubisoft’s very own cutie Jade Raymond has just moved up the ranks now that she’s been promoted to head of the new Ubisoft Toronto studio.
She will be working under Yannis Mallat, who is CEO to both the new Toronto Studio, as well as the one in Montreal. Jade Raymond will be in charge of a new studio, focusing on “AAA games and new intellectual properties.” Right now, she’s still busy with Ezio and “other Ubisoft projects,” according to the announcement.

Sony and Nintendo increasing effort in fight against piracy
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PSP
Though Nintendo already has a pretty solid system in place for combating piracy — the persistent threat that Reggie Fils-Aime will crush any software buccaneers between his mighty jaws — the company recently increased its piracy-preventing ranks. Neil Boyd was recently appointed European anti-piracy counsel for the company. Boyd, along with a pair of Nintendo’s legal advisors, will “take action against criminals who are making money out of the infringement of games developers’ copyright,” according to Nintendo anti-piracy director Jodi Daugherty.
Sony’s also increasing its piracy prevention efforts, albeit through more technological means. The PSP Go will contain a non-removable internal battery, which keeps would-be hackers from implementing the popular, homebrew-enabled Pandora battery. Also, we hear the PSP Go’s boot-up screen displays a pouty, doe-eyed Jack Tretton that’s said to strike crippling pangs of guilt into anyone who tries to conduct dubious dealings on the handheld. Consider PSPiracy beaten, friends.

Square Enix considering DLC for Final Fantasy XIII
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3
Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) is still far from release but already Square Enix is eyeing the possibility of prepping DLC for the game. Speaking to RPG Site after GamesCom 2009, Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that they are indeed exploring that possibility.
So says the Kitase-san:
We are exploring the option of downloadable content, perhaps adding new areas, items or enemies, but these would not be expansions to the story, only the gameplay. The entire story of FF13 will be on the disc.
The thought of having to pay for extra content may not be too enticing right now, especially since the game isn’t even out yet. What kind of DLC would you guys actually consider getting?

King of Fighters XII patch fixes online play
by admin on Aug.31, 2009, under PS3

To put it lightly, online play in The King of Fighters XII sucks. It’s broken, regardless of which platform you play it on. Weeks after the game’s release, SNK Playmore has finally released a patch for the PS3 version. According to the press release, the update “fundamentally changes the way game data is processed and synchronized during online matches, placing greater importance on the game’s response time and allowing for much smoother play.” Online battles should be improved, especially for those with less-than-ideal internet connections.
An Xbox 360 version of the patch is also in the works and should be available “very soon.” SNK Playmore issued an official apology with the release, promising it will “strive to improve their system of quality control for future titles,” but we’re wondering how the fighting community will response. For some, this patch may be too little, too late.
